To all our loyal adopters, fosters, volunteers, donors, veterinarians/surgeons and supporters, it is difficult to know how to begin an announcement such as this one. Where
do you even start? Well, here goes…

For more than 30 years, SQ Rescue, Inc. has been rescuing, caring for, arranging fosters and finding forever homes for over 6,000 dogs as well as some cats and one rooster! SQ Rescue, Inc. was founded by Mary Escue and her close friend Mandy Shealy in 2001 but they actually started rescuing dogs years before incorporating. With the support of countless donors and community effort, we have provided full vet care, hundreds of heartworm treatments, major surgeries, amputations and much, much more. We have taken in hospice dogs and kept them safe and loved until they passed. We have rescued dogs from horrific situations and found them incredible forever homes. The list goes on but suffice it to say we’ve done a LOT of good in our community and we are very proud of those accomplishments.

Following a difficult decision by the Board, the time has come for us to close our rescue effective 12/31/22. We have the same struggles that everyone in rescue has, specifically, lack of fosters, shortage of volunteers, non-stop requests to take in dogs we have nowhere to house and 24/7 stress about where to put dogs waiting for forever homes which they all deserve. Several of us have older family members to care for that need more of our attention. Many of our volunteers and fosters also have full time jobs, growing families and pets of their own, making it more difficult to help us at times. All in all, we have given so much of ourselves to help these animals and we are very appreciative of everyone involved who has supported us all these years. So, with mixed emotions, it is time for us to move on to whatever next phase or direction life takes us.

A couple of things to note. We have 10-12 dogs currently in our rescue and we will honor our commitment to find homes for them either through our organization or with the help of a few other rescues willing to help us place them. We will care for these dogs both physically and medically until they are placed in loving, forever homes.

If you make monthly donations through PayPal, you can stop or redirect those to other rescues if you prefer. If you have one of our dogs that needs to be spayed/neutered, we are still covering those costs for you so that will be taken care of for the dog you adopted. Any remaining funds after existing obligations will be donated to other rescue organizations.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us through Facebook messenger or our phone line 803-223-9729. We will have those available for a bit longer
and most likely into early 2023 until everything is resolved.

We want to THANK EVERYONE for your support during these years. We could not have done it without you. It has truly been an honor to help so many dogs in need.
